The Light That Overcomes the Darkness

Three Kings, Kacper, Melchior, Baltazar

On the very first Christmas, a child was born in a stable, laid in a manger, wrapped in swaddling clothes.  Such a lowly birth for the savior of all mankind.  The Christ Child…Jesus, son of the one and only living God. The night sky was lit up by a very bright star that rested over the stable where baby Jesus was born.  The star led people to Jesus, so they might worship him.

Jesus is the light that overcomes

the darkness of sin in the world.

He is the light of men.

In Genesis 1, we find the story of creation.  (Vs. 1) God created the heaven and the earth.  (Vs. 2) The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep.  And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.

Genesis 1:3 – And God said, Let there be light; and there was light!

Ocean, Sunset, Sun, Sunrise, Water, Sea

(Vs. 4)  And God saw the light, that it was good,

and God divided the light from the darkness.

(Vs. 5) And God called the light day, and the darkness he called night.

And the evening and the morning were the first day.

God spoke light into existence.  He spoke light into the darkness.  Darkness is the absence of light.  Where there is no light, there is darkness.  Where there is no good; there is evil.

God did not create evil.  Just as darkness is the absence of light,

evil is the absence of God.   –  Albert Einstein

Einstein was half right.  (Is. 45:7) – I formed the light, and create darkness:  I make peace and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.  God is comparing light and darkness with good and evil.  God divided the light from the darkness, just as he divides the children of light from the children of darkness.  God spoke physical light in to existence, and light dispels the darkness.

(John 1:1)  In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God.  Jesus is the word.  (John 1:4)  In him was life, and the life was the light of men.

(John 1:14)  And the word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father) full of grace and truth.

Jesus, Sermon On The Mount, Christ

(1st John 1:5)  This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light and in him is no darkness at all.  (1st John 1:7)  If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.

John 9:5 – As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

Jesus came to be a light to overcome the darkness of sin in our lives.  When Christ physically left this world, he sent the Holy Spirit to live in us and give us light.

Every person makes a choice either to live in darkness (absence of light) or to live in the light of Christ.  In Luke 1, verse 79, Zacharias gave a prophecy that Jesus would come to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Wow!  If you want the darkness to leave your life; just let the light of Jesus shine in!  Remember, darkness is the absence of light.  If we ask Jesus into our heart, his light begins to shine into the darkness in our souls.  The degree to which we let Jesus into our life; is the degree of darkness that must leave our life to accommodate his light.

As you see, in Luke 1, verse 79,

The light of Christ will guide our feet into the way of peace.

John 3:19 – And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.  The light of Christ brings the evil deeds from the darkness into the light where they can be seen.  Those who want to continue in their evil ways, do not want those sins exposed.  They love the darkness, where they think their sins are hidden.  John 3:20 – For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.   They don’t want to be brought to a place where they will feel a need to change.

In contrast:  John 3:21 – But he that doeth truth cometh to the light; that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.  According to Websters, manifest means: evident to the senses, especially to the sight, apparent; distinctly perceived; hence, obvious to the understanding; apparent to the mind; easily apprehensible; plain; not obscure or hidden.  The second meaning is detected; convicted.

If the sinner comes into the light of Christ, he sees his sin in a different way.  He becomes aware of his sin and the consequences.  We call this conviction.  It is not pleasant to be under conviction.  Yet some people live in this state for some time; unwilling to give up the sin that they now see in the light of Christ.  They live in a convicted and unhappy state, when all they must do is confess to God and he will help them turn from their sin.

1 John 1:9 – If we confess our sin, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Colossians 1:13, 14 – Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and has

translated us into the kingdom of his dear son.  In whom we have redemption

through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins.

1 Peter 2:9 – But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation,

a peculiar people; That ye should show forth praises of Him,

Who hath called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

December 25 is the day we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.

The Christmas holiday has become so commercialized, these days, that it’s easy to forget the real reason we celebrate this holiday.  We are celebrating the entrance of the King of Kings, Emanuel (God with us).  We are celebrating the day, the light of the world came down to dwell among us.  The birth of the Christ, the savior of mankind.  We are celebrating the birth of the sinless sacrificial lamb, the sacrifice to end all sacrifices.  The one who loved us so much that he took the darkness of our sin upon himself, and paid the penalty on the cross.  He loved us so much, he was willing to suffer and die on the cross, in payment for our sins.

Salvation is a free gift.

We can take it, or refuse it.  It is a choice we make, to walk in darkness,

or come into the the saving light of Christ.

If we take the freely offered gift of salvation,

we will live eternally in the light

Rev. 22:5 – And there shall be no night there; they need not a candle,

neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light;

and they shall reign forever and ever.

If we refuse the gift of salvation, we are doomed to live in darkness

(the absence of the light of Christ)

through all eternity.

Have you made your choice?

Today is the day of salvation.

Present, Gift, Purple, Lilac, Stars

Remember, not making a choice

could mean you choose darkness by default.

There may not be a tomorrow.

Let’s put the Christ back in Christmas!

Another Wealthy Affiliate Goal Reached – Top 50!

Hi friends.

In keeping with my promise to keep you updated on my progress at Wealthy Affiliate, I am writing to tell you I have reached another goal.

I am now among the Top 50 in the WA Community!

Sign, Road Sign, Roadsign, Traffic Sign

The next goal is ambassador; but I have decided to limit my time on the Wealthy Affiliate Community site for a time.  I do this with a heavy heart because I love writing blogs, commenting and receiving comments.  I will be dropping in from time to time; just not as much.  Why have I decided to do this?  I have examined my priorities and decided that I needed to spend more time on my website and my training.  I have a goal of posting two or more posts on my website a week; but I have only been getting one post on a week.

As a result, my website health has suffered.  It was the color blue which means “website health is pretty good”; but it went backward to orange which means “website health is improving”.  My priorities needed adjusting, and this was a sad wake up call.  I will be hoping to be able to resume posting 2 to 3 times a week starting the beginning of December.

Training, Corporate, Lecture, Blackboard

My other reason for spending less time on the Wealthy Affiliate Community was to spend more time on the wonderful Wealthy Affiliate training.

I completed Phase 2 recently.  I am moving on in

Phase 3, which is “Making Money”!

Dollar, Money, Cash Money, Business

I realized that I needed more knowledge if I were to become an Ambassador.  The Amassadors are there to help others.  I will need to know more about internet affiliate marketing to help answer the questions of the other members.  It is imperative that I become more knowledgeable before I move into that position.

Stars, Reach, Success, Motivation

I will continue to learn until I reach my goal!  I will reach for the stars.  I will stretch myself further and further until I can touch them!  Why not join me!  Follow your heart.  Follow your dream.  You are never too old to dream.  Those dreams can be achievable; but only if you start taking steps toward them and reaching for the stars!

Thank you for coming along on my journey with me.  If you would like to join me in reality, You can make that decision today.  Take your passion and make your dreams come true.  Start your own website; learn as you go.  Start for free.  Nothing to lose.  Just click below:

Apple Cider Vinegar for Health Issues

What is apple cider vinegar?

Apple cider vinegar is simply vinegar that is made from fermented apple cider.  Apple cider vinegar may be used for many health issues.  A list of some of the benefits are listed later in this post.

What is in apple cider vinegar?

Apple cider vinegar contains – acetic acid, malic acid, pectin and potassium.  It has anti bacterial, anti fungal and anti viral properties.  These qualities make it healing for many health issues.

Will apple cider vinegar be too much acid?

Even though apple cider vinegar is acidic; it has an alkaline affect on our bodies.  Many people recommend drinking it as a tonic.

One tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, and one tablespoon of honey, in one cup of warm water.

If you prefer cold drinks;

One tablespoon in a glass of water. (may be sweetened if desired)

What health issues could be helped by the use of apple cider vinegar?

This is quite an impressive list; and by no means complete:

High cholesterol, joint pain, arthritis, rheumatism, gout, leg cramps, weight loss, allergies, acne, dandruff, chronic fatigue, candida, sore throat, ear infections, gum infections, sinus infections, flu, acid reflux, plus it helps dissolve kidney stones and lowers blood pressure, it may help type2 diabetes by improving insulin sensitivity.  Since it contains potassium, it promotes cell tissue growth.

It may be put on blemishes for faster healing.  Mixed with water it can be used as a skin tonic.  Some say you can heal skin tags by putting vinegar on and a band-aid and changing it each night.  I use it as an anti fungal to keep from getting a rash under my breasts.  It also may be used for sunburn.  It soothes the pain and may stop peeling.  It can soothe the itch of hives and insect bites.

Can I substitute white vinegar for apple cider vinegar?

Apple cider vinegar is often chosen over white vinegar for many health issues.  Although they both contain acidic acid; apple cider vinegar may have more anti fungal, anti viral, and antibacterial properties.

This is my personal opinion:

White vinegar may be substituted; but apple cider vinegar is most likely better for detoxifying.

Apple cider vinegar with the “mother of vinegar” still present in it, is an even better choice.

What is “mother of vinegar”?

“Mother of vinegar” is a bacterial substance that forms in vinegar.  It may look slimy or cloudy in appearance, or form web like strands.  It is made up of an acidic form of bacteria that helps ferment the apple cider to turn it to vinegar, when it mixes with oxygen in warm air.  It is harmless and may be filtered out by using a coffee filter, or simply left in.  Some people feel that there are many health benefits connected to the “mother of vinegar”, especially anti fungal and anti bacterial properties.

If you are buying your vinegar from the grocery store shelf, please be aware that most of these products have gone though a pasteurization process to remove the “mother of vinegar”  Many believe that killing the “mother of vinegar” also kills most of the nutrients that produce the health promoting properties.  That is why it is recommended to buy apple cider vinegar that hasn’t had the “mother of vinegar” processed out.  The vinegar that still contains the “mother of vinegar” is generally more expensive.  However, many people believe that it is more beneficial, and therefore worth the difference in price.

Best price at Amazon.  Simply scroll down with the scroll bar and click on Shop now.

With all the benefits attached to apple cider vinegar; why aren’t more people using it as a tonic?  Perhaps it is lack of knowledge, or maybe it is the very sour taste.  It could be the acidic nature, which can give you a little burn going down; especially if not enough water is added.

However, if you are creative it is possible to make the vinegar more palatable.  It can be mixed with juices; such as, apple juice, grape juice, pomegranate or lemon.  It may be sweetened with artificial sweeteners or sugar.  For a hot drink it may be added to certain teas and sweetened.

Drink, Mulled Cider, Alcohol, Hot

What else could we drink that promises to lower our blood pressure, help with our arthritis and rheumatism, aid in our digestion and acid reflux, help us lose weight, fight candida and many other infections, dissolve kidney stones, help with Type 2 Diabetes by improving insulin sensitivity, and promote cell growth from the potassium it contains,  plus, the acidic acid may protect us from cancer, and it helps with various skin irritations and abnormalities.

If I was to try to list all the health benefits of vinegar, I would be sitting here typing all day.  Some say it is the elixir of youth.  It is purported to give us more energy and stamina as we grow older.  And since it cures or helps many of the health concerns of the elderly; it may help us live longer, more active lives.

What have we got to lose?  What’s a little bit of sour on our tongue, as compared to all the benefits?

Lady, Young, Woman, Girl, Female, Person

I have just started drinking apple cider vinegar and water.  I will let you know if I am feeling better in a few weeks.  I sure hope it helps with joint pain; because the old knees have been giving me some trouble lately.  I also have acid reflux.  It would be very nice to have some relief from that terrible burning in my stomach, and acid filled reflux burning the whole way up my throat.  Maybe I will save on antacids, too.  I tend to have some candida overgrowth at times.  Especially if I have to take an antibiotic.  🙁    The other thing I have is nasty sinus trouble.  Oh yeah, and I wouldn’t mind losing some weight either.

I stand to benefit from this new addition to my health care, in many different ways!

I hope you have gleaned some information from this post. And that the information contained will help you decide if this is something that you would like to add to your diet.  That decision, my friend, is entirely up to you and your physician.

If you need more information, there is much to be found on the internet about this subject.  Just type almost anything about vinegar and health in to your search engine.  You will then be supplied with a wealth of information on this subject.

Three Months at Wealthy Affiliate

Hi friends.

On the fifth of this month (November) marked my anniversary.  I’ve been with Wealthy Affiliate for three months now.  So, I thought it was time to give you an update.

Forward, Wagon, Train, Freight Train

I have been having a blast writing blogs and commenting on other’s blogs on the WA site.  They are such a wonderful community and I have made many friends.  Because of this networking, I am now ranked at 46.  That means that I am in the Top 50 at WA. If you would like to join this wonderful community of helpful friends, you can join for free today.  Just click on the link below.

I am pleased and honored to be in the Top 50; but also dismayed; because I know that I will have to back off a bit. I am spending too much time connecting on the WA site.  As enjoyable and profitable as this is; I am finding I am spending several hours a day on this endevor.  Which doesn’t leave me with enough time in the day to work on my website and lessons.  I need to concentrate on my lessons, and on getting more content here on my website.  I was adding at least two posts a week; but lately I am lucky to get one a week done.

My website has suffered and I must regroup.  My website health has gone back down to orange (your site health is improving).  It was on blue (your site health is pretty good).  So as you can see, I am spending too much time networking; and not enough time on my website.  I will rectify that.  I hope the next update I will be saying my site health is back up to blue again.

I have written 40 blogs on the WA site.  If you are interested you can find them here:

I currently have 520 followers on the WA site; and I get more followers every day.

Training, Corporate, Lecture, Blackboard

I am on Certification Level 2, Lesson 9.  And I am on lesson 8 of Phase 1 in Boot Camp.

I have 14 posts and 4 pages on my website here.  And I have 34 comments on them.

Treasure, Gems, Box, Treasure Chest

Wealthy Affiliate is a treasure chest of information; and I intend to renew my interest in unlocking all those treasures, by delving back in to my lessons.  I still have so much to learn, and if I am to show you how to make money with Wealthy Affiliate; then I must be about the business of learning myself.  If you want to get started with a free membership today, just click on the link below.  We will go on this journey together.  I will help you every step of the way.  If I don’t know your answers, I will find someone that does.  I will give you my own personal email so you can always reach me.

I can tell you though, that I came in to this very green.  I knew nothing about affiliate marketing.  I was looking to find a new purpose for my life; after taking care of my parents for almost 9 years.  Their death, while sad in itself, took away the purpose that my life had held for all that time.  I was feeling a little lost.  I was looking into ways to make extra money, when I came across a site promoting WA.  I checked into it; because my first thought was that it might be a scam.  I found many good reviews, and very few bad things said about this company.  And you can start for free!  That’s right..$0.

Zero, Number, Numbers, Digit, Design

The best part Wealthy Affiliate was that I could join for free.  I thought, what have I got to lose?  So I started the free lessons they provided.  I built my very first website on my fourth lesson!  Kyle and Carson made it easy and fun.  I won’t say that I didn’t get stuck on some things from time to time; but there was always help available.  And oh how exciting it is, when you persevere until you get your answer.  What a wonderful feeling of accomplishment.

I found that I loved writing.  I love encouraging people, and I love to be encouraged.  This is where the WA  community excels.  I am able to write blogs and get comments, and read other people’s blogs and give comments.  I was at a point in life that I needed to have an outlet for my creative side.  And writing blogs on WA, and here on my website, is providing that.

In the WA community we are all learning to think positive and to follow their dreams.  We have a place to talk about our accomplishments, too.  We all understand each other, and have a common goal.  Which is to have a successful business online.

If you are interested in pursuing internet marketing, and being a part of this exciting community.  You can make that decision for yourself today.   You will get 7 days of free lessons at no charge.  And the new website, you will learn to build, will be free also.  In fact you get two free websites.  If you find it is not for you; you can cancel your membership (also for free).  Just click on the link below and you can join for free today.

I hope you enjoyed hearing about my journey at WA and my accomplishments so far.

Better Sleep – Better Life

Cat, Mackerel, Cats Maul, Yawn, Relaxed

Hi friends.

How are your sleep patterns?  When we get better sleep we have a better life. Doctors recommend 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night. Some people have trouble falling asleep; others fall asleep; but awaken very early in the morning.  Some people seem to have less of the deeper sleep. If we aren’t getting the recommended 7 to 8 hours sleep, we may suffer the consequences.

When we were young, we slept, well,…like a baby. We could sleep anywhere and anytime, with no problem at all, and not a care in the world.

Baby, Boy, Child, Cute, Expression, Face

As we get older, many of us develop insomnia, or difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep.  There can be many causes.  With aging we may be sleeping lighter or we may awaken often.  We may have trouble falling asleep in the first place.  We could be suffering from bladder or prostate problems that cause us to awake frequently during the night for trips to the bathroom .  Sometimes medications, that we are taking, could be causing sleep disturbances. Certain physical conditions can sometimes interfere with our sleep. Taking sleep medications is risky business because of the side effects and they often don’t work.  I will suggest some alternatives to taking sleeping pills below.

Man, Person, Sleep, Park Bench, Homeless

Simple behavioral changes can often improve the quantity and quality of our sleep.

Behavioral changes that may help insomnia:

  • Avoid large meals close to bedtime
  • Refrain from caffeine 6 hours before bed
  • Avoid smoking close to bedtime
  • Exercise 3 to 4 hours before bedtime
  • Deep breathing exercises
  • Go to bed at approximately the same time every night
  • Refrain from naps any longer than a half an hour
  • Establish a regular bedtime routine

Example of bedtime routine:  bathing or washing face, etc.; brushing teeth and hair; light snack, reading, prayer or meditation, etc.

Brush, Oral, Care, Clean, Dental

Let’s explore some things that can cause insomnia.

  • Certain medications, herbs or supplements
  • Alzheimer’s disease
  • Dementia
  • Heart failure
  • Pulmonary disease
  • Gastrointestinal disease
  • Dementia
  • Depression
  • Lack of or not enough exercise
  • Pain
  • Natural aging changes
  • Frequent urination
  • Alcohol
  • Caffeine
  • Nicotine
  • Sleep disorders

Sleep Disorders:

  • Sleep Apnea

What is Sleep Apnea?  Sleep apnea is a disorder characterised by episodes of brief awakenings because of not being able to breathe properly.  These episodes result from complete or partial occlusion of the airway, which results in snoring, gasps for breath or brief periods of not being able to breathe.  This can happen hundreds of times during the night.  The episodes cause a drop in blood oxygen levels and disrupted sleep, when the body awakens briefly, so that we can resume breathing.

Causes of Sleep Apnea:  Sleep apnea is caused when the upper airway is obstructed or collapses.  Being overweight, or loss of muscle tone due to aging are the major causes.  The muscle relaxation found in dream or REM sleep, may also contribute.  It may occur more often when someone is sleeping on their back.  Also there are times that the brain doesn’t stimulate breathing.

Sleep apnea can have major health consequences and can be life-threatening. Excessive daytime sleepiness may cause you to fall asleep while driving.  People who suffer from sleep apnea may have an increased risk of:  irregular heartbeat, coronary heart disease, heart failure or heart attack, diabetes, high blood pressure, heartburn and reflux, RLS (restless leg syndrome), PLMS, (periodic limb movement), concentration and memory problems, erectile dysfunction, stroke or TIA’s, depression or sudden death.

Sundress, Summer Dress, Girl, Woman

  • RLS – Restless Leg Syndrome

What is Restless Leg Syndrome?  Sufferers of RLS have intense discomfort in their legs, often described as a creepy crawly sensation. They feel a need to keep moving, repositioning legs, or a desire to get up and walk around to relieve the discomfort.  This often hinders their ability to fall asleep.

  • PLMD – Periodic Limb Movement

What is Periodic Limb Movement?  People who have PLMD experience rythmic movement of legs or arms during sleep.  These movements typically occur every 20 to 40 seconds. The sleeping person may not even know this is happening.  Bed fellows describe the movements as kicking or thrashing of the legs or arms.

Suggested home treatments for RLS or PLMD:  Soak legs in a warm bath before bed.  Exercise legs regularly.

If you have insomnia, I hope the behavioral changes I have suggested will help you attain better sleep, and in turn a better life.  I wish for you all to have blissful sleep and sweet dreams tonight and every night.

Thank you for reading.  I love comments.  You may use the comment section below to leave a comment or ask questions.

Stop by again sometime.  I love company!  Sweet dreams.

Why Do We Need Patience?

Today I’d like to talk with you about patience. What is patience?  How do we get patience?  Where does patience come from?  Why do we need patience?  I will try to answer these questions from the Bible.  (and Websters)

What is patience?

Patience is to “be patient”. Websters defines patience as being able to remain calm and not become annoyed when waiting for a long time or when dealing with problems or difficult people.

So how is your patience? Are you easily annoyed? Do you become impatient when things aren’t going the way you think they should? How do you feel, think or act, when the car in front of you fails to go, when the light is green? What happens when you are completely ready to go to an appointment, and your spouse is still in the shower? How do you feel when someone less qualified than you secures the position you have been working toward? Is your patience tested when the person in front of you, in the 20 items or less aisle, clearly has more than twenty items? Our patience can be tested in many ways. It seems  almost impossible to keep from becoming impatient; but we can control our reactions to that impatience.

How do we get patience?

James 1:3  says that the testing of your faith produces patience. James 1:4  Let patience have it’s perfect work that you may be perfect and complete and lacking nothing. What a wonderful reason to cultivate patience in our life.

Where does patience come from?

Romans 5:3  And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also, knowing that tribulation worketh patience.

Tribulation is described by Webster as an experience that is hard to bear, or distress or suffering resulting from cruel and unjust treatment or misfortune. Some synonyms are: affliction, agony, anguish, excruciation, hurt, misery, pain, torment, torture, travail, distress, woe. This is why we are sometimes told to be careful of praying for patience. Patience comes from going through and enduring hard experiences. Each time we lose our patience or become impatient, it is a new opportunity to become more patient in the future.

Why do we need patience?

1.  To be more like God.

Romans 15:4-6 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope. (5) Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus. (6) That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

God is called the “God of patience and consolation”. If we desire to be more like God, then we must cultivate the characteristics of God in our own lives. He also wants us to exhibit that “likemindedness” toward one another. In verse 6 He gives us a reason why we should be patient and consoling: So we may with one mind and one mouth glorify God. He wants us to be in accord with each other so that we will worship Him with one mind and one voice. We are to be united in Christ. The more Christians exhibit the characteristics of God, the more united the body of Christ, or the church, can become. If you desire to be more like God; study, learn and copy his characteristics.

2. To have patience toward others, in love.

Romans 12:10 & 12 (10) Be kindly affectioned toward one another with brotherly love, in honor preferring one another. (12) rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer.

We are to be kind to others with brotherly love. This verse asks us to put other’s needs above our own. God wants us to rejoice in hope; be patient in tribulation; and continue in prayer. If we have trouble maintaining our patience; we need to pray for the Lord to be patient through us. If we are not treating people with patience and love; we need to be praying that God will enable us to be more kind and loving; and less impatient.

3.  To have rest.

Psalms 37:7  Rest in the Lord and wait patiently for Him; fret not thyself because of one who prospers in his way; because of the man who bringeth evil devices to pass.

We have rest in the Lord if we wait patiently for Him. God’s timing is not always like ours. We need to be patient until he answers our petition. He asks us to be patient during the trying times in life. (tribulations) He desires that we even be patient with those who hurt us or do evil against us. He doesn’t want us to worry or be upset over what someone else is doing or not doing. Our job is to keep our eyes on Him. His job is to take care of all the evildoers. Vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord. We must trust that “God will work all things together to the good; because we love Him and are called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28

4.  To bring forth fruit.

Luke 8:15  But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.

If we desire to be a seed that falls on the good ground, first, we must have and honest and good heart; second, we must not only hear the word, but keep the word; and third, we must bring forth fruit with patience. We need to be patient with others; but also with ourselves. Satan loves to attack believers with discouragement. If we are not patient with ourselves, we can easily fall into the trap of discouragement. God says bring forth fruit with patience.

5.  To make us complete.

James 1:4  Let patience have it’s perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete and lacking nothing.

What a wonderful promise. Wouldn’t you love to be made perfect, be complete and lack nothing. All that can become reality if we trust completely in God. It may not come when we think it should. And you say “How can we be perfect”? You can be perfect in Christ; because you are covered by His blood. When He died on the cross, He took all our sins (and mistakes), past, present and future, upon His sinless self to be the propitiation for our sins. Our sins (and mistakes) were crucified with Christ; leaving us washed white as snow. We are not perfect in ourselves; but we are “perfect” in Christ. If our trust is completely in God; then we are complete in Him, and we lack nothing. The problem comes in because we are sometimes of “little faith”. We say we trust God; but we are trying to solve the problem ourselves. When we make mistakes we feel condemned; but Christ crucified those mistakes with Him on the cross. When we feel condemned; there is an action we must take: repentance. But there is no need to be living in condemnation. He is faithful and just to forgive.

6.  To receive the promise.

Hebrews 6:12 That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. Hebrews 10:36  For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

We will, through faith and patience, inherit the promises. We need patience to do the will of God and to inherit the promise of God; which is eternal life. He tells us not to be slothful (or lazy). God asks us to actively follow those who through faith and patience inherit the promises. If we read and study the Bible we will learn what the will of God is. Then we need to pray that God will do those things through us. He is the “author and finisher of our faith” Hebrews 12:2   But we must believe that He is, and that He is able to do what He promises.

7.  To possess our souls.

Luke 21:19  In your patience possess ye your souls.

Do you want to possess your own soul?  If we don’t possess our own souls…who will?  We must have the patience to read and study the Bible.  We need patience to exercise self control.  Patience is the cornerstone to dealing with others in love.  We need to be forgiving toward those who have hurt us or wronged us in some fashion.  We need to have patience when things don’t happen when we think they should.  Sometimes we want immediate satisfaction over long term reward.  With our patience we will possess our own souls If we don’t possess our own souls, we are open to being mislead, possessed by the wrong desires and temped to move in non-Christian directions.  Be patient.  Possess your own soul!

8.  To the coming of the Lord.

James 5:7  Be patient therefore, brethren, until the coming of the lord. Behold the husbandman (farmer) waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and the latter rain.

Here the Lord asks us to be patient for His coming. He uses the analogy of the farmer and his crops. When we plant a seed, it won’t immediately produce a plant; and when we have a plant; it won’t immediately produce fruit. The farmer must be patient until the seed germinates under the ground and begins to grow. The sunlight and rain also have a place in this process. When the gospel seed is planted in a heart; it begins to grow or germinate. Usually we can’t see that growth, just as the farmer can’t watch his seeds while they are under the ground. The seed needs water at this point; not necessarily light. When a person comes to Christ, they just come to know a little of the light that God can shine into their lives. As they grow and learn, they will need more of the light of Christ and a continuous flow of the Holy Spirit’s teaching. If that seed is not given the right things to develop and grow; it will wither and die. A seed that goes unwatered in the ground; will not produce a plant; let alone fruit. A seed planted in the heart of someone who has no desire to learn and grow in the Lord, will also not produce fruit.
