From Heart of Stone to Heart of Flesh – The First Heart Transplant

Hi friends.

Today I want to talk about heart transplants. The first human heart transplant was on December 3, 1967, at Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa. A 25 year old woman died in an accident and her heart was transplanted into 53-year-old Lewis Washkansky, making him the recipient of the first human heart transplant. He lived 18 days, while the heart beat normally. He died of double pneumonia. Since then there have been many heart transplants, with patients living for longer periods with better anti-rejection medications.

80% now live 2 years, 70% live for 5 years, and 50% live 10 years or more.

But today, I want to discuss how we can go from having a heart of stone to having a heart of flesh.  God performed the very first heart transplant in Biblical times and He is still doing the same today for those who believe!

Ezekiel 36:26 – “A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.”

A heart of flesh.

He said he will take away the stony heart out of our flesh, and give us a new heart of flesh. And with this new heart of flesh, He will also put a new spirit within us. He was in the business of heart transplants back in Biblical times; and He still is today!

I looked up “stony heart”.  It means unfeeling or cruel. If we have a heart that is unfeeling or cruel; we need our God to perform a heart transplant.

Only God can really know what is inside our hearts.

And this is what he says about the condition of the human heart before salvation:

Jeremiah 17:9 – The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it.

We can’t judge another person’s heart; because “man looks on the outward appearance and God looks on the heart. (1st Samuel 16:7) We can’t even know the true condition of our own heart. Only God knows our heart. And he says it is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked!

Now that we’ve established our need of a new improved heart of flesh; let’s discuss the differences between the old stony heart and the new heart of flesh. Let’s compare a stone to the flesh on our hand.

Stone – Dead (not living), non-porous, hard, imovable.

Beach, Sand, Stones, Heart, Love

Flesh – Living, porous, soft, moveable

Treatment, Finger, Keep, Hand, Wrist

If you look at a stone, I think you will agree that it is not alive. It is non-porous. Which means that it can’t take anything in, or allow anything out. If you push on the stone, you will also agree that it is hard to the touch. Then take your finger and move it across the stone. The whole stone will move; but it will not allow you to move it’s surface or shape it.

Now let’s compare with the flesh on our hand. It is alive. It has pores, which allow it to take in things such as hand cream, etc. The pores also allow the body to get rid of impurities and perspire. When you touch your flesh; it is soft. If you apply light pressure with your finger, and move it, the skin will move with it. So flesh is living, soft, pliable or moveable, and porous.

When we allow God to perform a heart transplant on us, He takes out the heart of stone. He removes the heart that is hard, and immovable, that can’t take anything into it or give anything out of it, the dead (in sin) heart. And He replaces it with a new heart of flesh. This new heart is living and breathing, it is soft and pliable. It is a heart that can receive the Word and the His Spirit; and share God’s love and the Good News from the abundance of the Holy Spirit within.

Broken, Heart, Love, Red, Romance

The Lord tells us in Joel 2:13 – And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness.

In Biblical times, there was a ritual that people observed when they were hurting, mourning or in deep distress about something. They would “rend” or tear their garments. In the above verse, God is telling them that instead of rending their garments, they should rend (or tear) their heart instead. He desires that they open their heart before Him; and turn to Him. For God is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness. When we come to Him with an open, repentant heart; He is faithful to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

1st John 1:9 – If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Woman Praying, Prayer, Praying Woman

How do we get a new heart of flesh.

Romans 10:9 – That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

We need to confess our sins, ask forgiveness, and believe that Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins and that God raised Him from the dead. Then we will be saved. God will give us a new heart and a new spirit as He promised.

What can we expect now that we are saved and God has given us a new heart?

We will receive the power to believe:

Roman’s 10:9, (read above)

We will receive the Holy Spirit:

Ephesians 3:16 – 19 – (16) That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; (17) That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, (18) May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; (19)And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God.

We will receive power from the Holy Spirit:

2 Samuel 22:23 – “God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.”

We will be able to love God fully:

Matthew 22:37 – Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

We will be equipped to better obey God:

Ezekiel 11:20 – That they may walk in my statutes, and keep mine ordinances, and do them: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God.

Ephesians 6:6 – Not with eye service, as men pleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart;

We will be able to understand the word of God.

We are not able to understand the word of God apart from the Holy Spirit. Spiritual things can only be discerned by the spirit. Before we are saved, we understand the things of the flesh, or things of man; but we can’t comprehend the things of the spirit. We must receive the Holy Spirit, which we do receive when God completes our heart transplant. Then we can understand the deep things of God!

1st Corinthians 2:10 – 13 (10) “But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.” (11) For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. (12) Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. (13) Which things also we speak, not in the words which man’s wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

White Dove, Nature, Bird, Animals

We will be in a better position to be purified and sanctified by God:

We can’t purify and sanctify ourselves. It is a work of the Lord within us. He is the author (he writes faith on our hearts) and the finisher (he works out our salvation, growing us and forming us to be more like Him) until our life here is finished. Then we receive a new body, that will never die, and go to Heaven to be with Him eternally.

1st Peter 1:9 – Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

Hebrews 12:2 – “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

James 4:8 – Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

1st Peter 3:15 – But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear.

Through the Holy Spirit we receive peace and have joy:

Philippians. 4:7 – And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

1 Peter 1:8 – Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

In conclusion, God is the only one who can truly know the thoughts and intents of the heart. Therefore, we need to accept His conclusion that our hearts are “deceitful above all things and desperately wicked”.  The next conclusion we must come to is: if God is right (and we know He is), then we need a heart transplant. We need to have the heart of stone, or stony heart (unfeeling and cruel) removed, and we are in need of a new heart of flesh.

We can confess our sins, ask forgiveness, and believe that Jesus is our Lord and Savior, and He died on the cross to save us from our sins; and that God raised Him from the dead. Then you will be saved!

Cross, Sunset, Sunrise, Hill, Sky, Sun

The Lord will replace that hard heart of stone with a new living, breathing heart of flesh. A heart that his love and Holy Spirit can flow into and through. A new heart of flesh, that can be devoted and surrendered to Him. A heart through which He can impart to us His love, peace, understanding and hope through the Holy Spirit. A soft heart that He can mould to obey His Word; and through which He can purify and sanctify us. A new heart of flesh, through which the Holy Spirit can live and breathe, and have it’s being.

Psalms 139: 23 & 24 – (23) Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: (24) And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.

I am so glad that God has promised to take that sin diseased, hard heart of stone out of us and replace it with a new heart of flesh, so that we might have life and life more abundantly!

John 10:10 – “The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

Beautiful Day, Cheerful, Munter            Abundant life!

Part Time Income for Retirees

Hi my fellow retirees.

When we retire we no longer have that structure in our lives that our jobs gave us. While we are happy to not have to fight the traffic, or be tied down to a job, sometimes we feel like there is something missing. Something our jobs provided that our retirement doesn’t. This realization causes many of us to decide to look for part time employment.

The problem with part time employment for retirees is that they are going back in to the “rat race”, just on a lesser scale.  They still have to fight the traffic, and adhere to a certain schedule that is not their own.  They still may have to deal with difficult co-workers and less than ideal working conditions.  They may find that this is not the answer they were seeking.

What is the answer?

Of course the answer will vary from one individual to another.  I can only tell you what I came up with for myself, and you can decide if it is something you would like to try.  Maybe it could be an answer for you, too.

If you have read my about me page, you will know that I took care of my elderly parents for a number of years.  This was a labor of love; but very demanding and stressful.  It became my way of  life.  My main focus was overseeing their care, taking them to appointments, making decisions about their care and ordering the supplies needed.

When they passed away, I was not only mourning for their presence; but I had lost my main focus, or my purpose.  I had an empty void where my caring for them had been.  I knew I would need to fill that void with something, or I would sink into a depressive state of grief.  I also knew that just sitting around watching TV and eating wasn’t good. It would pull me down and suck me under.  No, the couch potato life wasn’t for me.

I came across an email promoting affiliate marketing.  I decided to check it out; but I wasn’t sure if it was something I could do.  There was a fee for the information that I was unwilling to pay.  I was aware of how people got caught up in scams; and I didn’t want to become one of them.

I’m happy to say, as I was researching, I stumbled across a website promoting a learning community called Wealthy Affiliate.  What I noticed, right away was that it was completely free to start.  All I had to do was sign up.  I wouldn’t have to even give them my credit card number.  So I did what I always do; I searched to see if it was a scam.  Well, I found lots of references to Wealthy Affiliate and scam; but when I looked into them, they were positive reviews for Wealthy Affiliate!

I found a lot of positive reviews, and hardly anything negative.  So I read what they were offering for free.  A free membership, seven days of free lessons and 2 free websites!  Wow!  What did I have to lose?  I could get started for free!  So I signed up.  You can check it out below:

I have been a member of Wealthy Affiliate for close to six months now.  I have learned so much, and there is still so much I can learn.

I love connecting with the community. There are people from all over the world.  Wealthy Affiliate has over 800,000 members.

800,000+ Community Size

195 Countries

I learn something new every day and I am constantly gaining new perspectives.  I love writing blogs

on the Wealthy Affiliate site and reading the blogs of others.  I have made many wonderful friends.

The Wealthy Affiliate Community becomes like a cyber family.

I have found in Wealthy Affiliate that sense

of purpose that I lost when my parents died.

I am learning and growing.  I am using my creativity!

I am connected to a group of people who are supportive and caring.

There is more knowledge on the Wealthy Affiliate site than I have time to take in.

I feel blessed to be a part of such a knowledgeable community.

Perhaps you are thinking you are to old to learn how do do internet marketing.

I just turned 69 last month (Shhh! Don’t tell anyone) and I now have a website and an internet business.

When I started with Wealthy Affiliate, I didn’t know if I could learn either; but within 2 days, I had built

my very first website.  The training made it easy.  If I can do it, so can you!

All you need to get started is a computer, a laptop,

or a tablet and an internet connection.

Most of us already have these tools.

What other business can you start for $0 investment capital?  And the best part is, you don’t even have to leave your own home. You can work in your jammies if you want.  You don’t have to fight the traffic, deal with unrealistic deadlines, or put up with disagreeable coworkers.

Is Wealthy Affiliate free forever?

No; but it is free to get started.

You get a free starter membership, seven days of free lessons and 2 free web sites!

I became a premium member before those seven days were up; but you have all seven days,

(without paying a cent) to decide if this is for you.  If you need more time to decide, you can go

premium for a very affordable price of $19 for a month.  Then you can pay month by month if

you don’t want to be locked in.  But if you go yearly, you will save.  Here is a breakdown:

First month premium membership – $19

Go yearly and save – $359

(Comes out to about $29 a month)

If all they had to offer was the training, it would be worth it;

but there is so much more.

Kyle and Carson, the owners can be reached by email or private messaging.  They are always willing to help.  They personally greet each new member by commenting on their profile page.  They do everything they can to ensure that each member has a pleasant and successful journey.

Are you feeling a void in your life?

Do you want something to fill those lonely hours?

Do you want to use your abilities and talents to help others?

My friend, the decision is yours.  I am bringing you this information, so that you can make an informed

decision.  For myself, I figured I didn’t have anything to lose, and everything to gain!

Now I am living vibrantly, using my creative nature, making new friends and using parts of my brain

I haven’t used in years!  No Alzheimer’s for me. My brain is active, creative and alive.

I’m not just enduring life; I am living it!

If there were nothing more than the community,

it would be worth it.

The community is made up of very positive and helpful people.  I love writing posts, reading posts, and

commenting and answering comments.  I have had to limit my time interacting on there, which makes

me sad; because I love it so much; but I needed more time to devote to my lessons and my website.

If all Wealthy Affiliate offered was the training modules,

it would be worth it.

But along with those lessons there are live seminars.  There are many wonderful trainings by our

ambassador members.  There is live chat; where members can ask questions and usually get

answers from other members within a minute or two.  Or there is the questions and answer forum,

where you can type in your question to ask it to the Wealthy Affiliate Community.  This is another

way to get answers.  There is a badge system to track your progress within Wealthy Affiliate.

Wealthy Affiliate is a safe haven where you can learn

and grow at your own pace.

A place where you will get positive comments

and constructive feedback.

All it takes to succeed is hard work, time and determination.

Everything you need to learn is supplied.

I have brought this learning community to your attention, and explained it to you, so you have a better understanding of how it works.

The decision whether to pursue this opportunity for part time income is entirely yours.

Thank you for stopping by.  I hope you come back again sometime.  I love company and

my door is always open.

Post Holiday Blues

Hi friends.

Well, the holidays are over.  All that time of speeding around trying to get everything done, and now it’s over.  The presents are all exchanged  The tree is down and all the decorations are put away.  It’s good, right?

Then why do you have an empty feeling inside?  Why are you feeling a sad sense of loss; an uneasiness? You were so excited to see the new year in; but now you find yourself at loose ends.  Why are you feeling so sad?  There is a very good chance you might be suffering from the post holiday blues.

Tears, Eyes, Sad, Cry, Human, Face

You may be surprised to find that you are not alone.  To you it may seem like everyone else is happily dancing in to the new year, full of plans for how to make this year the best ever; but some studies show that 25% of us suffer from post holiday blues.  I’m guessing that it could be even higher; because there may be some people who suffer silently through it.  Trudging through January and February until March promises spring, green grass, flowers and sunshine.

Success, New Year'S Day, Year, Start

What are some causes of the post holiday blues?

The let down, after riding high on Christmas.

Everything was so busy, so full of anticipation.  You were bustling here and there,

trying to get everything done.  Even after Christmas, there were preparations for

New Years.  And there was the house cleaning to be done after Christmas trashed

your brightly decorated home.

Then the New Year bash, and more trash?  The cleaning again.  Oh, and are you

sure you returned all the presents?  And maybe you better hit the Christmas

sales to get a head start on next year.

And then you are done, finally, time to relax, right?  But you can’t relax.  You

feel empty, anxious and sad.  You have the post holiday blues.

The realization that the perfect holiday we planned

turned out less than perfect.

You started out the Christmas season determined that this would be

the best Christmas ever.  You tried to pick gifts that you just knew

each person would be delighted with.  You gather their lists and try

to make sure you get the most important gifts for your loved ones.

Even though you thought you were ahead of the game, you find

yourself in a crunch at the last minute.  It’s Christmas eve.  Tomorrow

is the day.  All of a sudden you remember, you forgot to buy a gift

for Aunt Mabel.  You still have so many gifts to wrap and you were

going to do that early; but now you need to run out after Aunt Mabel’s

gift and snacks for Christmas day.

You run out to the store, fighting the Christmas crowds again.  You

have to park clear at the other end of the parking lot.  Of course!

Anything to take longer, right?  You manage to get your gift and

a cart load of snacks and drinks for Christmas day.

You trudge back out to the other end of the parking lot through the

snow that started while you were in the store, and now blanketed the

parking lot and your car windows.  Groan.  Now where did you

put that window scraper this time?

You manage to get back home safely, through the slippery, newly fallen

snow.  After unpacking, you set yourself toward the task of wrapping the

rest of the gifts.  Now where is the tape?  Kids?

Finally you are done.  Why do you feel so exhausted?  You look at the

clock and find it is 3:30am.  So you drag yourself off to bed and fall asleep.

The next thing you know, you are awakened by excited voices.  “Mommy,

Daddy, it’s Christmas!  Santa was here.  Come and see!

Then comes the flurry of the unwrapping.  Jimmy doesn’t like what you

got him.  He didn’t want that one.  He told you what one he wanted.  He

pouts in a corner.  Sally didn’t get the gift she wanted the most.  She

doesn’t say much is occupied playing with her other stuff; but you are

keenly aware of her disappointment.

Little Girl, Toddler, Sitting, Monster

Then you look around and there is no where to walk without stepping

on a piece of wrapping paper, a box, or a bow.  So you drag your

unwilling, exhausted body around the room, scooping it up.  What a

day!  You fall into bed, exhausted.  You failed again.  Not perfect.

We are back to hum drum status quo again.

After all that running about, there is something empty and sad about things

returning to normal; and well, boring.

Gathering with family may have opened up some old

emotional wounds we thought we had conquered.

Getting together with family is one of the joys of the holiday season; but

sometimes it opens old wounds.  And you find that the brother or sister

you never got along with hasn’t changed.  Sometimes hurtful words are

spoken and feelings are hurt.  Maybe someone didn’t like the gift that

you were sure they would love.  Or perhaps you got someone something

you could barely afford, and they got you a box of candy.  When the

holidays are over, all these feelings flood upon us.  We don’t know what

to do with them so we feel sad, empty, and dissatisfied.

Having no family to visit on the holiday leaves one

with a loneliness residue after the holidays.

Everyone else is celebrating with family and you have none to go to;

or there is a rift between you and your children and you are left to

celebrate the holidays alone.  This feeling of loneliness can linger on

even after all the celebration is over.

If you are going through a divorce or some type of

family turmoil during the holidays; it hits even harder

after the excitement of the holidays is over.

The stress of going through a divorce, or any type of family problem is even

more acute during and after the holidays.  It seems even more sad.

You may realize that you have put on 5 to 10 pounds

eating all those goodies.

Oh, what delicious meals you had for Thanksgiving and Christmas!  All

the trimmings, everything you love to eat.  And it is the holiday’s after

all, so eat, you do.  And those scrumptious deserts, and of course, the

Christmas cookies.  You indulge.  You throw caution to the wind.

Bathroom Scale, Horizontal, Weight

You need to go on a diet because you indulged.

The holidays are over.  So you timidly step on the scale.  Oh no!  You are

repulsed by what you see there.  It’s diet time.

With less daylight, some suffer from sunlight deprivation.

There are some people who become sad or depressed when they don’t get

enough light or sunlight.  If you are one of those people this could add to

the other reasons for post holiday blues.

Sun, Sunny, Partly Cloudy, Sky

You are grieving for spring, summer and sunny weather.

If you are a person who really doesn’t like winter and much prefer the spring and

summer months; this could be another cause of the blues.

The new year has handed you an empty slate and you have

no idea what to fill it with.

There is a whole new year in front of you; and you haven’t the slightest idea what

you will do with it.  It seems to you as though everyone else has a plan, and is

starting out the new year with gusto.  But you are simply spent, exhausted, and

without a clue how to start this new venture.

An Array Of, Green Blackboard

How do we conquer and move on?

Pamper yourself

The holidays have taken their toll.  Give yourself some TLC.

Take relaxing baths in lieu of quick showers.  Do a total body

cleanse to get rid of all that holiday junk you put in your

body.  Go for a massage, facial or manicure/pedicure.

Center your life back on God and the Bible

Have the holidays done a number with your Bible reading

and devotions?  Take this time to move back in to His

presence.  He is your strength, comfort and ever present

help in time of trouble.  Turn back to your lifeline.

Adopt healthy eating and healthy habits

Make small changes instead of trying to diet right away.

Drink more water.  Eat more veggies.  Make sure to get

your protein.  Ease into better eating.

Get more rest

The holidays are notorious for stealing your sleep.  You

have spent all this time going without enough sleep.  Go

ahead, sleep in.  Go to bed a half hour earlier each night.

Getting enough sleep can have a big impact on how you

feel physically and your emotional outlook as well.

Become introspective

This could be a good time for you to take some time to think

about who you really are and what you want out of life.

Set some short term and long term goals.

Realize that “This too shall pass”

Give yourself time to recuperate.  There is not anything in

this life that is permanent.  This too shall pass.  You will get

through this time of sadness and emotional stress.  There are

better days ahead.  Tell yourself this.  Be aware of your self

talk and endeavor to make it positive.

If this feeling lasts too long, seek help.

If you do all these things and nothing is easing the pain, or

taking away the anxious emotions.  And time isn’t healing

your wounds, don’t be afraid to ask for help.  Go to your

family physician, or go for some counseling.  You may have

a more serious form of of depression.

I hope this post has helped someone to be able to deal with

their post holiday blues in a more positive manner.  My reason

for writing this is to let you know that you are not alone and

there is help out there.

I want all of you to be able to get past the post holiday blues,

and any other type of sadness or depression, to a place of joy

and peace.

I consider my readers as my friends, and I want the best life

has to offer for each one of you.  May God bless and comfort

you through this new year.  May He show you the blessings

He has prepared for you and the wonders of His presence

in your life.

Friday the 13th – How my Mother Loved Superstitions

Hi friends!

Happy Friday the 13th!  Anybody feeling a bit unlucky today?

Friday 13Th, Unlucky, Friday, 13Th

Recently I was thinking of my parents (who are in Heaven now) and I remembered how my mother loved superstitions. She would abide by them herself, and she liked others to abide by them, too. I would sometimes get tired of them and call them stupercitions (alluding to the fact that I thought they were stupid). Now however, I would give anything to hear her tell me I had to sit down, when I forgot something and had to come back after I had already gone out the door at her house, or that I should make sure to go out the same door I came in, or to have her guide me around the outside of a ladder because it was bad luck to walk under it, or even scold me for opening an umbrella in the house, etc.

There are many superstitions that we may follow without even thinking about them. We have heard them so often, we just accept them and sometimes live by them. They have been passed down through the generations for so long; and we will most likely pass them down to our children and grandchildren. I’m sure there may be more that you remember that haven’t been mentioned; and I hope you feel free to use the comment section to tell me others you remember, that I have forgotten, or never knew.

Common Superstitions:

Wedding Bells, Bells, Love, Marriage

  • It is bad luck for the bridegroom to see the bride before the wedding.
A lot of brides and grooms abide by this even to this day.
  • For good luck the bride should wear:
  • Something old
  • Something new
  • Something borrowed
  • And something blue

Many brides still search for something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.

Cake, Birthday, Fly, Blue, Sky, Cloth

  • Make a wish, blow out all the candles on your birthday cake, and your wish will come true

This one is still a common practice at birthday parties.  It has become a tradition.

Lucky Clover, Four Leaf Clover, Klee

For good luck:

  • Cross your fingers for good luck.

Admit it, you do this one, don’t you?

  • Four leaf clovers are good luck.

If you find a lucky four leaf clover, do you press it in a book.  That’s what we used to do.

  • Horse shoes are good luck.
  • If you hang them, you must hang them upside down, so the luck doesn’t run out.

This one is one of the ones my mother and dad used.  You could often find a horse shoe hanging

upside down on the front of a shed.  Be careful not to turn it the other way; because your luck

will run out.  I saved one they had painted for a souvenir.

  • If you spill the salt, throw it over your left shoulder for good luck.

A family with four children gets a lot of spilled salt.  This was a common saying at our kitchen table.

  • Carry a rabbit’s foot with you for good luck.

My mother always carried a rabbit foot around in her purse for good luck.  I found her rabbit foot in

her purse, after she was gone, I saved it for remembering her.  I don’t think this one is very popular

anymore.  Maybe because of animal rights?

Bad Luck:

  • Friday the 13th is an unlucky day.

Hey!  That’s today!!  Maybe you’d better be careful if you go out today.

  • Bad luck comes in threes.

My mother used to say deaths came in threes.

  • It is bad luck to walk under a ladder. You must go around it.

I have many memories, as a child, of my mother guiding me around a step ladder and saying

it was bad luck to go under it.  I still have a little trouble walking under one.

  • It is bad luck to open an umbrella in the house.

Many times my sister or I were scolded for trying to bring our umbrella in to the house to dry.

And if I wanted to play with an umbrella when I was little, I had to go outside.

  • Breaking a mirror will bring you 7 years of bad luck.

Now I know you have heard this one.  How awful to break a mirror!  7 years is a long time!

  • Rocking an unoccupied rocking chair is bad luck.

This is another one that I got scolded for.  Little children love to rock rocking chairs,

and it is easier when no one’s in it.  Right?

  • When a bird flies into your window pane, it means someone is going to die.

There are many people who would swear that this one is a fact.  They get very distressed

if some poor unfortunate bird flies into their window pane.  Someone is going to die!

  • A black cat crossing your path is bad luck.

This is another that many people still believe.  Some people think black cats are bad luck,

period.  I have heard it is harder to get people to adopt black cats from shelters.  I love

black cats.  I don’t think I have had any bad luck from them walking in front of me either.

  • If you tell a bad dream before breakfast is over, it is bad luck.

I was never allowed to tell my dreams before breakfast was over.  I’m not sure why this

is supposed to be bad luck.  I think my mother said the bad dream would come true, if I

told it before breakfast was over.

Things you should and shouldn’t do:

  • If you start to leave a house you are visiting, and come back in because

you forgot something, you must sit down before leaving again.

Many was the time that I would forget my jacket, or forget to tell my mother something,

and I’d come back in to fetch it and leave.  “You have to sit down”, my mother would say.

Most of the time I would just humor her; sometimes I would mock sit on my thumb.

  • Say butter bread to counteract bad luck.

When ever we would do one of the things that was supposed to be bad luck, we could

say butter bread and counteract the bad luck we had brought on ourselves.

  • Make sure you leave the house by the same door you came in.

This was a house rule.  Always go back out the door you came in.  Even if it means

going the long way around.  No matter.  It’s bad luck to do otherwise.

  • If you swallow a watermelon seed, you will become pregnant.

I think the gist of this one is that if you swallow the seed, the watermelon will grow

in your stomach.  I used to worry about this one a bit.

  • If you sweep the floor at night; don’t gather the dirt until morning.

There were many times my mother would sweep the floor at night; but she just swept

it into a pile near a corner and put the broom over it, until it could be safely cleaned

up in the light of day.

  • If everything on the table is eaten; it will be a clear day tomorrow.

My parents used this one a lot.  I think they may have narrowed it down to, if we eat

everything on our plate it would be a clear day.  I used it on them to get them to eat

better when they were elderly.  Sometimes it worked.

  • Knock on wood to stave off bad luck or protect good luck.

This is one that should be familiar to you.  How many times have you said something,

and then as an afterthought, you say, “Knock on wood”.  The joke at our house was

trying to knock on someone’s head (was this calling them a block head?)

  • Never say thank you to someone who has given you a plant; or it will die.

My mother had a green thumb and would often give plants to other people.  She would

quickly tell them not to thank her, because the plant would die, if they did.

Bird, Tweeting, Singing, Melody, Song

Cute little saying superstitions:

  • Sing before breakfast; cry before supper.

I would hear this if I got up in a happy mood and started to hum, or worse yet burst

out in song.  Sing before breakfast; cry before supper.  Since I didn’t want to be

crying before supper, I usually hushed pretty quickly.

  • Step on a crack; break your mother’s back.

I remember trying to take some pretty big steps with short legs, trying to avoid the

dreaded cracks.  I really wanted my mother’s back to remain in tact.

  • See a penny, pick it up, all the day have good luck.

Now I know you have said this one.  How many pick up a penny they find on the ground,

and repeat this little saying to someone near (or to themselves).  Come on, admit it.

  • Change the name and not the letter; change for worse instead of better.

My mother liked to say this one when anyone married and the woman’s maiden name

happened to start with the same letter as her new married name.  I never paid attention

to how this worked out; but judging from the divorce rate, it might have been right.

  • Play with matches and you will pee the bed.

I was afraid of matches and fire, so my brothers usually heard this one.  I’m not sure

if this one was true or not either.  I don’t think they would admit it, if it were.

  • Cold hands, warm heart.

I still say this one.  It is so familiar and many people say it.  It is almost a term of

endearment.  You may have cold hands; but you have a warm heart.

  • An itchy palm mean you are going to get money.

This is one my mother usually said if her hand or someone else’s got itchy.  I don’t

think this one worked out though.  I wish it did; because I often get itchy palms.

  • If your nose is itchy, you are going to get a letter.

My mother always said it this way.  I think some people say that someone is thinking

about you.  I think there might be some others, too.

Family meals:

Turkey, Oven, Roasted, Thanksgiving

  • You can wish on the wishbone taken out of the chicken or turkey breast.
  • Two people make a wish, then they take hold of the upper ends of the v shaped bone
  • and pull until it breaks. The person who ends up with the larger part gets their wish.

I’m sure most of you have heard of this and participated in it.  We used to argue over who would get to

pull on the wishbone.  We were certain we would get the larger part and with it our wish!

I hope you have enjoyed this little trip down memory lane as much as I have.  Being a Christian, I don’t

believe in superstitions.  I believe that we are in the loving hands of our Heavenly Father.  We can cast

all our cares upon Him.  He is our refuge and strength and ever present help in time of trouble, and a

strong tower that the righteous can run into and be safe.  But I do believe in blessings from God and

that is what I pray for every one of my readers.  May the Lord bless and keep you, make His face to

shine upon you and be gracious to you, and give you peace!

Thanks for stopping by.  I love company and my door is always open!

Come back again soon.  I will be adding new content weekly.  I hope you enjoyed your visit.

Decorating Your Artificial Tree for Each Holiday

Hi friends.

The Christmas and New Year Holidays are over; but if you have an artificial tree, you can leave it up

all year round. There are many ideas for decorating your artificial tree for each holiday during the

remainder of the year.

In this post, I will give you some examples of how I have decorated my tree for each holiday in 2016.

You may think of other holidays you want to include and that’s just fine.  Have fun with it.

You may be thinking, “Oh this sounds like too much work” or “I don’t have the time”. But it is actually

rather fun and doesn’t take much time. Since you aren’t putting the tree up. and taking it down, it is

pretty easy. Some of the decorations may be left on the tree, and the new decorations added.  For

instance, if I have angels on my tree from Christmas, I can let them on for Valentine’s Day. Then

just add hearts, lace, or any other appropriate decorations for the Valentine’s Day Tree.

The first thing you need is an artificial tree that already has lights on. Preferably not one that is overly

large. You can put it in an out of the way corner, so it doesn’t interfere with your everyday life.

Yet there it is! A thing of beauty for you to enjoy all year long.

I bought my tree several years ago.  I think I paid around $35 for it.  I was tired of cleaning up pine

needles, and I loved the fiber-optic lights. If you don’t have one, shop around until you get a good buy.

Or you can buy a second hand tree for much cheaper. Just make sure it is in good condition.

This is the tree I started with. A basic artificial tree. Mine has fiber-optic lights that twinkle and also

regular lights that were already on it when I purchased the tree.

If your tree doesn’t have any lights, that’s okay.

Just add your own.

You will only have to put them on once anyway.

The wonderful thing about decorating your tree all year long is; you don’t have to put the lights

on and take them off; and you don’t have to get the tree out before Christmas, and put it away

after.  No more trips to the garage, or attic for the tree.

It is already there; so you just decorate!

Of course, the first tree we will be decorating is our Christmas Tree.

Christmas tree 2015

Here is mine from 2015/2016

After Christmas is over, simply survey your tree to see what decorations can stay for Valentine’s Day,

and what must go. Hearts are always beautiful for Valentine’s Day. Red, white, silver and pink are good

colors. Angels or cherubs are also fit into the Valentine’s Day theme.  Maybe you don’t have any hearts

(which I didn’t). Any dollar store will have cheap decorations close to the season.

I picked out some glittery hearts. Then I went home and used red craft foam to make more. Get creative,

if you have the time. Use scraps of ribbon, pieces of lace, valentine cutouts, etc. For impact, hearts

can be cut with pinking sheers. Then glue a small red heart to a larger white heart and back with an

even larger red heart. Experiment. You will be surprised at what you come up with.  If you just start

doing something creative it will fuel your creative side, and you may amaze yourself and others with

something beautiful!  Best of all, it will be something you created!

Valentine’s Day Tree

This is my Valentine’s Day Tree.

You can use your Christmas hooks to hang decorations. If they have a

string, simply hook on that.  If not, poke a hole to put the hook in.

It is easier to use the metal hooks than the little strings.

Oh my, Valentine’s Day is over already. You can let the decorations on for

the rest of the month, if you want. The next holiday I decorated for was

St. Patrick’s Day. There is a Dollar Tree Store in my area (everything a

dollar or less); but any Dollar Store will sell cheap decorations.

I found some shamrock at Dollar Tree.

Shamrock, Green, Clover, Irish

You can make your own by drawing 3 hearts with

their points together and putting a stem on.

Then cut them out of green craft foam or

felt (backed with cardboard).

I found a cute leprechaun hat that I used for the tree top.

St. Patrick’s Day Tree

Here is a picture of my St. Patrick’s Day Tree.

The next holiday I decorated for was Easter. Good color choices for Easter are pastels: pink, purple,

yellow, orange, blue, etc. I found a little pink stuffed lamb to use for a tree topper. Ideas for Easter

could be: lambs, chicks, eggs, bunnies, baskets, ribbons, etc. I used mostly plastic eggs and some chicks

on this tree.  The crosses and angels were already on from Christmas and Valentine’s Day.

Easter Tree

This is my Easter Tree.

Your Easter Tree decorations can stay on all through April, if you like. When May comes, I think of

spring flowers. I used some large flowers I found at Dollar Tree. I filled in with smaller flowers.

I also found some large sparkly butterflies. I really liked my Spring Flower & Butterfly Tree.

I left it up until near the end of June.

Butterfly and Flower Tree

Here is my Spring Flower

& Butterfly Tree.

At the end of June or the first of July, you can decorate for Independence Day. I found some red,

white and blue bows and a big one for a tree topper at the Dollar Tree. You could go with red white

and blue flowers, or streamers that look like fireworks.

4th of July Tree

Here is my Fourth of July Tree.

(Or Independence Day Tree)

Oh my. Is it August already?

I found August a little more difficult to find a theme; but I went with sunflowers and I loved my

Sunflower Tree so much I left it up right through September,October and November.

(Or maybe I just got too busy)

In September I added some autumn leaves around the bottom of the tree.

Here is my Sunflower Tree:

If you want, you could make an Autumn Leaf Tree for September.

It could have acorns or pine cones, too

Leaf, Autumn, Leaves, Forest, Red Leaf

Ribbons and bows of autumn colors would be nice.

Colors for autumn: brown, orange, red, yellow and green.

Autumn, Decoration, Fall, Food, Fresh

October could be a Halloween tree. Ghosts, pumpkins, black cats, apples, etc.

October colors are similar to Autumn; but black and orange are the main

ones used. Next year; perhaps I will have a black cat and pumpkin tree.

Cat, Black, Animal, Grass, Concerns

Your October Decorations could remain on the tree into November, or you could let your pumpkins

or orange and black ribbons on and add turkeys and/or cornucopias for a Thanksgiving Tree.

Or make your own pumpkin, turkey or cornucopia cut outs from craft foam and write something

you are thankful for on each one.

When the family comes for dinner, they can join in the fun

by adding their decoration with their own personal thanks message.

Oh My! It’s the end of November before you know what happened!

It’s time to put the fall decorations away and bring the Christmas

decorations back out. We are starting all over again.

But didn’t we have fun? I know I certainly did!

My Christmas Tree for 2016/2017

What will the decorations cost?

I am on a fixed income and can not afford to spend a lot for decorating. If you use the same decorations

over again, just varying slightly so your tree doesn’t look quite the same as it did the year before;

your cost will be a one time investment. Or if you have time, you could make a lot of your decorations.

I didn’t have much time; so I went to the Dollar Store. 🙂

I think I paid around four to eight dollars for each holiday;

but I will use them again this year and next, etc.

When each holiday ends, pack up your decorations into a box

and label with the holiday name, ie:  Christmas, Valentine’s Day, etc.

They will be ready and waiting for you when that holiday arrives the next year.

In conclusion:

I had a lot of fun throughout 2015, decorating my tree for each holiday, and I have every intention of

doing the same this year.  My Christmas tree is still up; but it will soon be turning into my Valentine’s

Day Tree. And I will be enjoying my tree all year long in 2016.

I hope you enjoyed this post and got some ideas for decorating your own Christmas tree for each holiday

all year round. It is so much fun.  Your visitors and family will love looking at the different holiday trees.

There are so many variations you can come up with. The possibilities are endless.

Finished Certification Course Three at Wealthy Affiliate

Hi my website friends.

I promised that I would keep you informed of my progress at Wealthy Affiliate.  The training is so good.  My problem has been finding time during the holidays to get to my studies.  Anyway, I finally finished Certification Course Three.  For accomplishing this, I received a new certification badge.  For each course we finish we earn a new badge.  This shows up on my profile page something like this:

I am really looking forward to having more time to devote to my studies, now that the holidays are over.

So look out 2017, here I come!

Would you like to learn how to build a website?  Would you like to build an online affiliate marketing business?  Wealthy Affiliate has all the training you will need.  And you can join for free and get 7 days of free lessons.  Sound too good to be true?  That’s what I thought.  So I researched.  I found so many positive reviews of Wealthy Affiliate and couldn’t find hardly anything negative on the whole internet.  Now if you want to know if something works, just ask the people who are doing it, right?  So do your research.  Don’t just take my word for it.  Then if you want to take advantage of these free lessons, a free starter membership and 2 free websites, simply click below.  It is free.  No credit card required to sign up.

So what have I been doing since I wrote to you last?  Let’s see.  I have been adding to my health posts on this website.  Again, with busyness of the holidays, I was only averaging one post a week.  Now in 2017, I am shooting for two or three posts a week.

I have become an Amazon Affiliate and earned my first small commission.  Yes!  Proof to me that this does work.  I have joined other affiliate programs; but haven’t gotten them monetized yet.  I joined Google+.  I will be joining Facebook, Twitter, and possible Pintrest within this month, if all goes as planned.

I have been spending much time on the Wealthy Affiliate Site.  I get notification emails when someone in my network writes a post or a training, then I must decide which ones to read and comment on.  I used to try to read all of them; but that has become almost impossible.  There are more and more people joining my network.  So that means more notification emails and more blogs and trainings to sort through.  I have 689 followers in my network as of this writing and I have been getting new followers each day.  My rank is now 32.

It is hard to choose which to read because they are all so good.  I am afraid I will miss something important.  As I said in one of my other posts, I had to cut down the time I was spending reading and commenting to have more time for my website and my lessons.  I may be cutting down a little further in the new year.  I have made so many friends and I so love reading and commenting on the blogs.  We are like a family.  We build each other up, we console when others are down, we inspire each other, we bring in humor, we share our accomplishments and we answer each others questions.

Since we are all at different places in our training we compliment each other.  The new person asks for help, the veteran gives help.  The person who is in lesson one, can receive help from someone who is on lesson two or three.  As we try new programs or plugins, we can share how they work or how we like them.  We can support each other when going through rough patches.  We can share knowledge we have received elsewhere with the Wealthy Affiliate Community.  It is a win, win situation.  If you would like to be a part of this community, you may join for free, simply click below:

Wealthy Affiliate is a training center where you can learn on the job.  Having a successful internet affiliate business doesn’t just happen. It takes work and commitment.  Some people seem to think they will learn all they need to know in a few days and in a month the money will be pouring in.  If you hear of someone offering to sell you a secret formula for this kind of overnight internet success, RUN!  Run fast and run far.  The bucks will be flying; but they will be going from your pocket to the person who has the “secret formula”.

Pssst:  I know the secret of the secret formula:  IT DOESN’T WORK!

It’s a scam to separate you from your money!

There is no way to make money on the internet without investing time.

Wealthy Affiliate doesn’t promise overnight success.  The amount of success you will have, will be proportionate to the amount of work and time you are willing to invest in your future.  How much you learn from the lessons taught at WA is proportionate to how you put them into practice.  Some people will make money within 3 or 4 months; but mostly it takes 6 months to a year for a site to monetize to any real degree.  In some cases it may take longer.  So if what you are looking for is overnight success you might as well keep looking.  But if you are willing to follow the lesson plan, and you are ready and willing to invest the time to put what you have learned into practice; Wealthy Affiliate may be for you.

You can get started today for free.  You simply sign up.  You pay $0 to start!

They don’t even ask for your credit card number.  You will be able to sign up for a free starter membership, 7 days of free lessons, and 2 free websites.  By day two in the lessons, you will learn how to build your very own website!  You will be amazed at what you can learn to accomplish!  It’s a lot to learn at first; but there are many places to get help within Wealthy Affiliate.  You won’t be alone.  You will have a community to support you.  I will give you my personal email so you can ask me any questions you can’t find answers to within the WA site.  If I don’t know the answer, I will make every effort to find it for you.  If you would like to get started today, simply click on the link below, sign in and you are on your way!

You have seven days to decide if you want to go premium.

If you don’t want to continue, you are free to leave.  No strings attached.

If you want more time to decide; the first month is only $19.

That will give you a month with premium benefits while you make your decision.  If you decide you want to continue, the monthly membership is $49; but if you are sure you are ready to commit wholeheartedly, you can become a yearly member for just $359. Which works out to about $29.92 per month; less than $1 a day! If you need more time, just continue monthly.  It is still a good deal for the amount of knowledge you will have access to.  The choices are all up to you and there is no pressure.

I will continue to inform you of my progress.  So you can wait and watch, if you want to see what happens with me; but it may take a while; because I am in no hurry.  I am enjoying the journey and the community.  I have a lot of lessons to go through, and a lot to learn.

Thanks for stopping by my site.  I hope you come back again.  I love company!

Please feel free to leave comments or ask questions in the comment section below.  I will answer all comments, and do my best to answer all questions to the best of my knowledge and ability to do so.  I enjoy getting comments and appreciate the interaction.  Thank you.

Apple Cider Vinegar Use Review

Hi Friends.

I wrote a post on November 17, called Apple Cider Vinegar for Health Issues.  The post was written to inform you of the different health benefits

attributed to apple cider vinegar.  I had just started drinking apple cider vinegar in water.  I told you that I would report to you in a couple months

if I experienced any of the health benefits.  I’m willing to be the guinea pig in this experiment to see if the health claims are true.  I will be just as

honest as I can about how I am feeling.  There are no guarantees that we would react the same; because everyone is different.  But I will report to

you what has happened to me health wise since I started to drink the ACV and water.

It is the beginning of January and I have been using ACV for approximately a month and a half.  I started with one glass a day.  Then after about

a week, I raised my intake to two glasses.  Once in a while, I forget, and only get one glass drank.  Starting tomorrow, friends, I’m raising my intake

to three glasses a day.  I’m also going to mix it the night before, so that it is less likely I will forget.

The most noticeable benefit is, that I have much less heartburn and acid reflux.  I was taking many

antacids a day to combat the dreaded burning and reflux I was experiencing.  I can sometimes go

days without any now. If I take any antacid, it is usually at night when I lay down; because it gets

worse in the prone position.

I must say though, that if I eat the wrong foods (which I did over the holidays)  the heartburn

and reflux has a tendency to come back, so diet has a lot to do with it.

Another thing that has changed for the better is, I believe that I have less sinus problems.

I’m not completely free of this menace; but it is reduced considerably since drinking the

ACV and water.  Perhaps with a little more time I will have even better results.

I have lost weight (over 10 pounds) but I have been dieting, (except for a day or to right at the holidays).  I can’t really say if it is the ACV or my diet,

or maybe both?  Years ago I met a woman who claimed that the ACV and water she was drinking was how she lost weight and kept it off.  She was

very slim, and though I had just met her, I was impressed.  If you would like to try ACV for yourself, simply click on the Shop now.

As far as the arthritis though, I have not really noticed a difference yet.  Perhaps it will take more time, or maybe it is not one of the things that will

change because of drinking the ACV.  Losing the weight hasn’t really helped with the arthritis pain yet either.

My blood pressure has only been taken once, at the dentist’s office, and it was pretty good;

but it was already leveling off for me, so I’m not sure if the ACV helped with it or not.

I will keep you updated.  I will post another post in about a month.  We will see if raising the intake to to three glasses a day improves my health.

Thanks for visiting.  I love company.  I hope you come back again.
